Fighting over the thermostat?
Solve your problems with a zoning system.
Zone systems allow a single airconditioning system to act as multiple systems. This is done by using multiple temperature sensors and motorized zone dampers controlling where the conditioned air is routed to.
Zone systems can be used to eliminate the troublesome hot or cold areas of a house. For example, a house that faces East has problems with the front of the house getting hot in the mornings and cold in the evenings. This happens because the sun shines directly into the front rooms heating them up in the mornings while the temperature on the other side of the house is not affected by the sun. In the evenings, the opposite occurs, causing temperatures in the back rooms to rise. Since there is only one system and one thermostat, there is no way for the system to maintain a comfortable temperature throughout the house.
Installing a zone system with two zones will fix the problem. One zone will be the front of the house and the other zone will be the rear. This will require two temperature sensors, two zone dampers and a zone control board as well as reconfigured ductwork. With the zone system installed, in the mornings when the temperature rises in the front rooms and the back rooms are still comfortable, the system will close the damper that supplies air to the rear of the house and open the front damper. This allows the entire house to maintain a comfortable temperature.
